The perfect ring is the one that fits comfortably on your finger. Our international ring size conversion chart allows you to determine and compare parameters across six different world regions.
If you’re an American citizen traveling abroad, you can often get confused by the multiple standards available in contemporary jewelry.
Ring size differences are a frequent issue, leading to common buying mistakes.
There are two fundamental variables when it comes to choosing the perfect ring for your finger:
- The inside circumference (mm/in);
- The inside diameter (mm/in);
On top of that, there are six different scales, making it sometimes too confusing for the consumer.
Here are the measurement standards in use today:
- ISO 8653:2016 (Austria, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and other countries in Continental Europe);
- United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia;
- North America (US, Canada, and Mexico);
- Russia;
- Japan, China, and India;
- Switzerland, Italy, and Spain;
Most European countries follow the ISO 8653:2016 standard. As a result, they consider the measurement of the inner circumference in millimeters.
The other countries developed and followed their own standards.

Useful Tips
The ring size chart shown above applies to both women and men.
The average woman’s ring size (US/CAN/MEX) is 6, while the average man’s ring size is roughly 10.
A ring should never be too loose or too tight. There’s a perfect test you can do – if the ring fits over the knuckle, everything’s good.
You should also take into consideration the fact that warm weather expands your fingers, and cold weather contracts them.
Additionally, remember that if you’re hesitant between two sizes, you should always pick the larger one.
Last but not least, your ring size is approximately half a size larger in the hand you write with.
